How our exam guides are written
Last updated: 21 October 2026. This page explains where the information in our NEET, JEE Main, CUET UG, SSC CGL, SSC CHSL and UPSC CSE guides comes from, how we label uncertainty, and how to tell us something is wrong.
What these guides are
MentorTalk publishes free exam guides so that students can find the official rules in one place. They are reference pages, not coaching material and not a substitute for the official notification. Every guide links to the primary documents it summarises.
Where the information comes from
We use the conducting body's own documents first: NTA information bulletins and notices for NEET, JEE Main and CUET; UPSC notifications and the annual calendar; SSC notices and the tentative examination calendar; and NMC syllabus documents for NEET. Newspaper reports and coaching summaries are treated as leads, not sources, and are never used to state a date or a rule as confirmed.
- NEET UG guides cite the NTA portal, information bulletin and NMC.
- JEE Main guides cite the NTA portal, information bulletin and NTA calendar.
- CUET UG guides cite the CUET information bulletin and public notices.
- UPSC CSE guides cite the UPSC calendar, notification and application portal.
- SSC CGL and SSC CHSL guides cite SSC notices and the examination calendar.
How we label dates and rules
Exam information has three states, and we label them differently:
- Announced — published by the conducting body in a bulletin, notice or calendar. We say so and link to it.
- Expected — a pattern from previous cycles, clearly marked as a planning assumption. We never present an expected date as confirmed.
- Not confirmed — no official basis. We say that plainly rather than filling the gap with a prediction.
Rules that belong to a past cycle are labelled with that cycle. A 2026 eligibility rule is not described as a 2027 rule just because it is the most recent one available.
How often we update
Every guide carries a last-updated date. We review the pages when a conducting body publishes a new bulletin, notice or calendar, and again when results or schedule changes make an existing page inaccurate. We do not change the date without changing the content.
What we do not do
- We do not publish predicted exam dates as if they were official.
- We do not invent cut-offs, topper marks, vacancy counts or selection statistics.
- We do not promise a rank, a score, a seat or an admission. Mentor guidance can improve preparation; it cannot guarantee an outcome.
- We do not present a coaching summary as a substitute for the official notification.
Corrections
If a guide is wrong or out of date, email support@mentortalk.app with the page URL and the correction. Include the official source if you have it. We will check it against the primary document and update the page.
Independence
MentorTalk is a mentorship platform. We are not NTA, UPSC, SSC, NMC or any examination authority, and we do not influence their decisions. The guides are free to read; mentorship is a separate paid service. A student can use the guides without buying anything.
