UPSC Civil Services Examination Guide

About the Civil Services Examination

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) to recruit for services including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service. The examination has Preliminary and Main stages followed by the Personality Test, as described in the applicable official notification.

2027 calendar status

UPSC's Annual Calendar 2027 currently schedules CSE Preliminary Examination for 23 May 2027. The calendar lists 13 January 2027 as the planned notification date and 2 February 2027 as the application deadline. UPSC says calendar dates are liable to alteration. These entries are schedule projections, not an issued 2027 examination notification.

As of October 15, 2026, no separate CSE 2027 notification or examination rules were listed in the UPSC examination sources. Check the official notification when published; do not assume 2026 rules apply to 2027.
